Never did I think I would be a parent that relied on things that have music, buzz, vibrate or swing to soothe my child. For some reason, I thought my natural abilities would trump modern baby-technology. Not needed for "our" child, thought I. I was wrong. On Friday, I looked down at my child on my knees and realized that I was recreating the same movement as a swing and thus, decided to throw him in his cousin Madeleine's swing and see what happened. It is a miracle. Swaddle him up and put him in there and he's out. Like mouth open happy out. As I write this, he's been in there for about 45 minutes, allowing me to do laundry, write thank yous, eat a few slices of pizza and watch women's gymnastics on TV, while Mike is at CRHP. Previously, I was doing a lot of baby carrying during the day. Amen for the swing! I love you swing!Man alive the three of us are some serious lake people. Peanut slept for 4 hour stretches both
Friday and Saturday night. Like his parents, he is much more relaxed at the lake and it was much appreciated after Wed. and Thurs. where he was awake and wanting to eat much of the day (growth spurt?)! The warm lake breeze was good for all of us... We listened to a lot of the new Coldplay cd, went out for dinner in Kingsland, enjoyed some fab-O Bacardi premixed mojitos (YUM)... and did some stargazing. I hate Sundays coming back to reality.
Tomorrow we are going to the ped. to find out if JM has reflux. I still don't know if he's just grumpy adapting to life or if he's in pain and it drives me crazy. I always want to be able to fix everything and since we don't speak the same languages, yet it doesn't work that way. He spits up quite a bit sometimes, but so do a lot of babies. Anyway, my 1) goal for the week is to chill out. His crying really gets me stressed out and I need to change my attitude and take it easier. 2) is to get him back sleeping in his crib more. they say you can't spoil a newborn, but there has been a lot of sleeping on or with mom and dad this past week and i'm afraid it is going to stick... (with being another thing i said i wouldn't do- ah, what you'll sacrifice for silence and sleep!)
